PASEO is a DEP-approved training sponsor  (ID # 87).  Periodically throughout the year, we offer SEO training courses to both members and non-members. Space is limited at all training course to the first 40 registrants.


During PASEO’s Annual Conference at the Red Lion Hotel in Harrisburg, PA on March 8-10, 2020 and PASEO’s Western Conference at the Doubletree in Monroeville, PA on March 16, 2020, we will be offering a variety of training courses.  Refer to the conference registration page and the conference attendee registration brochure for specific details and pricing.  Register for the courses via the conference registration forms.

INSTALLATION OF ONSITE WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS

The PASEO/PSMA Installation of Onlot Wastewater Systems training course (#12-0001) is being offered concurrently with the Annual Conference activities on Monday & Tuesday.  If you opt to register for this training course, you will attend the two-day course instead of the various conference breakout sessions. However, training course participants can take part in all of the conference breaks, meals, and networking opportunities.  This course will educate installers in proper design and installation of septic systems so that systems operate effectively upon startup and are accessible for regular service over the life of the system.  Topics covered will include: Industry Integrity, Installation Safety, Soils and Site Evaluation, Materials and Techniques, Installation Planning, Distribution Pressure and Gravity Systems, Tanks, Installation Piping, and Pumps & Controls.  Successful completion will result in the individual being listed on DEP’s website as having completed the installation course.


ECOFLO IN PA – COCO BIOFILTERS

Ecoflo Biofilters are advanced treatment systems that have been approved for use in PA as alternate systems.  The focus of this half day, 3- SEO credit course will be the new EC7 Coco filter models. The course will provide a technical overview of the coco filter system andH its performance in reducing BOD5 and TSS. General system design standards for both plastic and concrete tanks will be presented along with absorption area sizing criteria. Construction and installation techniques will be reviewed along with permitting guidance, as well as system operation and maintenance requirements.

At-grade absorption areas are an alternative to elevated sand mound systems and are approved for use in PA as an alternate system. The focus of this half day, 3-credit course will be to describe the technical concept and site testing requirements for at-grade absorption areas particularly in comparison to elevated sand mound systems. General design criteria will be presented as well as more detailed absorption area design elements for both the level and sloped at-grade absorption areas. The importance of equalizing flows for sloped systems will be discussed as well as construction and installation techniques, SEO inspections, and system maintenance.


PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION – UNDERSTANDING DEMAND DOSING, TIME DOSING, AND FLOW EQUALIZATION

This course will educate Sewage Enforcement Officers with the overall concept of dosing i pressure distribtuion systems and how dosing can promote long term functioning of the absorption areas. The course describeds differences
ith demand dosing, time dosing, adn flow equalization, and presents teh advantages and disadvantages of each. The course will review the overall dosing requirements for Chapter 73 pressure dosed systems and teh alternate systemlisting for the use of flow equalization in PA. Typcial design scenarios will be reviewed for demand and time dosing as well as for flow equalization situations, so that the SEO can acquire experience in reviewing and determining compliance with PA standards. Attendees will learn how various control panels are designed to facilitate dosing schemes and also to provide useful information for ongoing system operations. The use of standard spreadsheets will also be introduced to help facilitate SEO design reviews.


PERCRITE MICROMOUND: DESIGN REVIEW & INSTALLATION INSPECTION

This course will review the alternate system listing for the American PercRite micromound system and educate SEOs about the design review and installation inspections for this technology. Part 1 of the course will review the basic siting and design requirements and the details of sand and drip tubing placement. Operational design calculations will also be demonstrated. Part 2 of the course defines manufacturer and SEO responsibilities and then focusses on critical elements of the SEO inspection of a micromound installation. Satisfactory completion of this course will allow SEOs to independently issue permits for this technology.


SEWAGE MANAGEMENT BASICS

Course objectives include: to introduce SEOs to sewage management and the importance of keeping onlot sewage systems healthy; to provide some steps for creating a sewage management program (SMP); and, to give options for implementing, administering, and enforcing a SMP.


ADVANTEX TREATMENT SYSTEMS IN PA, and MAINTAINING A RESIDENTIAL JET BAT MEDIA PLANT

Advantex – The importance of system maintenance cannot be overstated and is the key to long term system functioning. Acknowledging the fact that all systems and all system components require maintenance, this short course on operation and maintenance will focus on the Orenco Advantex Treatment System. The course will briefly summarize the Adantex treatment system, how it works, and the current maintenance measures required in PA by the system’s alternate listing. The course will then focus on more detailed maintenance activities that are specific to the Advantex system. (1.5 CEU)

Residential JET BAT  – The importance of maintaining all components of an onlot sewage disposal system cannot be overemphasized. This short course will focus on system operation and maintenance for a residential Jet BAT Media plant. The course will briefly summarize the basic components and operation of the media plant and will then focus on detailed maintenance activities that are specific to the Jet BAT media plant. (1.5 CEU)

PASEO is pleased to announce that is reached an agreement with A-Plus Environmental Learning LCC to acquire its full catalog of high-quality, DEP-approved SEO training courses.  PASEO’s training committee is planning to offer “training days” in (or near) the following Pennsylvania municipalities: Harrisburg, Reading, Bethlehem, Scranton, Monroeville, and Williamsport.  Our hope is to offer full- and half- day training options in each location during May 2020 and November 2020.
